“The fever is at an elevation of body temperature above normal. When a baby or an infant has a fever, your body is responding, usually from infection by viruses or bacteria,” explains Erick Rosales, infectious diseases physician and pediatrician at Children’s Hospital of Mexico.

Considered a normal temperature is between 36 and 37.5 degrees centigrade, if a baby or child is over 37.5 degrees, then, has a fever.

“In short, high temperature is a primary barrier of the body to prevent the infection progress and be treated with an antipyretic safe and reliable,” says Rosales. To control and reduce, doctors recommend giving antipyretics (or antipyretics), medications that help lower the fever and reduce body temperature.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the antipyretic paracetamol (acetaminophen) is effective, as the ingredient is an analgesic that also eliminates the pain and discomfort (headache, muscle and joints).

“Some of the most common causes of fever are infection of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and ear, caused by viruses or bacteria dehydration, application of vaccines, hypersensitivity to certain drugs and some central nervous system injuries,” say the Mayo Clinic specialists.

Fever or fever is not as bad as it sounds, since this symptom it is trying to warn of an infection and is intended to remove the discomfort associated with the disease

“One must bear in mind that the fever is not dangerous, but the disease behind. For higher you are, never occurs alone. If the fever persists, go immediately to the pediatrician” says Mario Escutia, regional director of Business Unit Global Pharmaceutical Bristol-Myers Squibb.

But if there are problems getting antipyretics, a recommendation is to apply cold compresses or warm in the head and abdomen.
