BATH & AROMATHERAPY

Soothing aromatherapy baths and massage may help relieve pain and inflammation. Choose three of the oily essences to add to bath water or massage oil, basil, black pepper, elemi, myrrh and pine.

GENETIC CONSIDERATIONS

Relatives of patients with SLE have an increased risk of developing the disease. Identical twins are more often concordant in the development of the disease than fraternal twins. Certain human leukocyte antigens confer a high risk, especially HLA-B8, HLA-DR2 and HLA-DR3. Congenital deficiencies of early complement components, especially C4, are also associated with higher incidence of SLE.

Racial associations mentioned above also imply a genetic influence on the spread of the disease.
