CONCEPT

It is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect many organs. This is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the autoimmune mechanism forms antibodies that attack the body’s own tissues. Many experts believe that is due to an as yet unidentified virus.

According to this theory, the immune system develops antibodies in response to the virus causing the body to not know our own organs and tissues. This disease causes inflammation of the skin, blood vessels, joints and other tissues.

Lupus means “wolf” because many people develop a facial rash on the wings of a butterfly across the nose and cheeks giving the appearance of a wolf. Read the rest of this entry »
